Supporting People
Supporting People is a national policy initiative designed to secure a more co-ordinated approach to the provision of services to certain groups. There are groups that may, because of their condition or vulnerability, have requirements for specialised forms of housing provision, or else require support services in order to continue living an independent life in their existing home. The initiative seeks to co-ordinate the provision of individual services by housing, social services and health providers, and to produce a more unified basis for the allocation of the available funding.
Fordham Research uses a number of methodologies to undertake relevant research so that housing and support needs can be assessed and met in a planned way. This includes:
Focus groups
We have undertaken many focus groups to add depth, especially in areas such as service user difficulties, choice and quality issues.
Training
Our expertise lies in communication, survey work, analysis, reporting and implications. We work in partnership with local experts in the specified client group to achieve the Council's aims. We also provide specialised training in how to use the data set we provide.
Facilitating, Negotiating & Consultation
We have expertise in carrying out consultation with residents to investigate issues such as how their housing options will be informed by personal goals and barriers to achieving those goals.
Experience
- We have considerable experience working with people who do not have English as a first language
- Our reports are written in plain English, and we can tailor our reports to suit most audiences
- We have expertise in working with family carers and other support workers
- We have first hand experience of the Supporting People strategy and commissioning process
- We can work within partnerships
- We can extract policy implications from reports and assist in strategy formulation
Fordham Research offers an excellent 'aftercare' service, and our expertise in a range of fields allows us to provide added value to main survey work, such as:
- Further cross tabulations of the data
- Delivery options

- Planning negotiations
- Briefings for support groups and partners.
